Vocation Information Day set for September 13

The Commission on Ministry will be hosting the next Vocation Information Day at Church of the Ascension, 701 Orange Ave., Clearwater on September 13.

The purpose of this gathering is to assist all those interested in the development of their ministry, whether lay person, deacon or priest. The choice of this date, the Eve of Holy Cross Day, comes about as the result of amendments the Commission has made regarding their work.

The Commission sees the need to extend this to four weeks throughout the year, coinciding with the Ember Days of the church year. The Book of Common Prayer sets aside the Ember Days, traditionally observed on the Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays after:
The Ember Weeks are the weeks following:
• the First Sunday in Lent ,
• the day of Pentecost ,
• Holy Cross Day, and
• December 13.

During these days, prayer is offered
• for those to be ordained,
• for the choice of fit persons for the ministry, and
• for all Christians in their vocation.

The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will include lunch and a closing Eucharist. It is expected that the schedule for the day will conclude at mid-afternoon.

Attendance at the gathering does not require the permission of your rector or vicar, nor does such attendance imply the approval of the Commission for admittance to the ordination process.
