The Scoop for June 18, 2008

This is The Scoop, a communication from the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida. Send items to share to Jim DeLa, director of communications.

The Scoop for June 18, 2008:

Fair trade at convention: This year's diocesan convention, set for Oct. 10-11 at Christ Church, Bradenton, will include a Ministry Fair, an opportunity for congregations, ministries and church-related vendors to be visible and tell their stories. (Clergy, take note: Almy's will be there). Planners promise it will be in a high-traffic area, so convention-goers can’t miss the exhibits.

The fair is limited to 50 tables. Yes, you'll be allowed to sell items or seek donations to support your work. To reserve your table, please contact the Rev. Joel Morsch at Christ Church in Bradenton. The deadline for reservations is Aug. 1. Visit the convention web page at http://www.episcopalswfl.org/diocesan_convention.

Coming to a narthex near you: The July/August issue of the diocese’s bi-monthly newsmagazine, The Southern Cross, will arrive in churches in early July. This issue will include coverage of the June 28 Diocesan Council meeting, where DaySpring’s interim director, Dr. Charles Wallace, will make a report on the state of the conference center. The issue will also provide a concise preview of the upcoming Lambeth Conference of bishops is England, an overview of plans for diocesan convention and a look at this year’s diocesan summer camp.
