The Episcopal Church: Title III, Canon 2, Of Commissions on Ministry

Section 1     In each Diocese there shall be a Commission on Ministry ("Commission") consisting of Priests, Deacons, if any, and Lay Persons. The Canons of each Diocese shall provide for the number of members, terms of office, and manner of selection to the Commission.

Section 2.     The Commission shall advise and assist the Bishop:

                        (a)     In the implementation of Title III of these Canons

                        (b)     In the determination of present and future opportunities and needs
                                  for the ministry of all baptized persons.

                        (c)     In the design and oversight of the ongoing process for recruitment,
                                  discernment, formation for ministry, and assessment and
                                  readiness thereof.

Section 3.     The Commission may adopt rules for its work, subject to the approval of the Bishop: Provided that they are not inconsistent with the Constitution and Canons of the Church and of the Diocese.

Section 4.     The Commission may establish committees consisting of members and other persons to report to the Commission or to act on its behalf.

Section 5.     The Bishop and Commission shall ensure that the members of the Commission and its committees receive ongoing education and training or their work.

The Diocese of Southwest Florida: Canon XVI, Of the Commission on Ministry

Section 1.     The Commission on Ministry of this Diocese shall consist of twelve voting members, of whom six shall be Presbyters, two shall be Deacons, and four shall be Lay Persons. Members shall be appointed by the Bishop, and confirmed by Convention. Terms shall be for a period of three years. Terms shall be staggered with one-third of the members being appointed annually. In the event of a vacancy, the Bishop shall appoint a replacement to fill the unexpired term. A person may serve two consecutive terms. He or she will then be eligible for reappointment after a period of one year. In addition, one member of the Standing Committee shall serve as liaison to the Commission on Ministry with seat and voice. This person shall be appointed by the Standing Committee.

Section 2.     The duties of the Commission on Ministry shall be those prescribed in the Canons of the Episcopal Church, and such other duties relating to the ministry of this Diocese as shall be assigned by the Bishop.

Section 3.     The Commission on Ministry shall annually report to the Convention of the Diocese.

Section 4.     No voting member of this Commission may serve on the Standing Committee during his or her term of office.
