Bishop Dabney Smith addresses the 39th annual convention of the Diocese of Southwest Florida on Oct. 20 in Venice.
Bishop Dabney Smith used his first address to diocesan convention Oct. 20 to steer a course for Southwest Florida with an emphasis on mission, outreach and young adults. Read the full text of his address: 
Only one resolution considered by voting clergy and lay delegates won acceptance at convention. 
October 20, 2007 - In a single ballot, delegates elected Navita Cummings James, Joan Kline, Karen Patterson, Roger Schwenke, the Rev. Ray Bononan, the Rev. Bob Hennagin, the Rev. John Hiers and the Rev. Sharon Lewis to represent the diocese at the 2009 General Convention in Los Angeles. 
October 20, 2007 - Dr. William Moore and Deborah Tripp were elected to at-large seats on Council. 
October 20, 2007 - Michael Howell and Karen Patterson were re-elected to three-year terms. The Rev. Bob Hennagin was elected on the third ballot to claim the clerical seat. 
October 20, 2007 - The Rev. Donald Fishburne was elected on the second ballot. 
October 20, 2007 - David McCallister, Navita Cummings James and the Rev. David Danner were elected on the first ballot 
October 20, 2007 - David McCallister and the Rev. Michael Branscombe were elected by acclimation to the Chapel Center. The Rev. Roy Lightfoot was elected by acclamation to the Diocesan Review Committee. No lay person was nominated so the seat will be filled by an appointment by the bishop.

October 18, 2007 - In a meeting on the eve of diocesan convention, Diocesan Council approved disbursement of more than $600,000 in funds supporting ministry within the diocese and beyond.
Council member Judy Stark, the chair of the Grants and Loans Committee, announced that St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Naples will receive the once-a-decade “20-20” grant of $500,000.
Council also approved a recommendation on how to spend about $120,000 in apportionment funds collected from parishes but not forwarded to the national church.
