General Convention 2009

GCCA_09C

The every-third-year gathering of the Episcopal Church known as General Convention is all of these things. The 76th gathering began in Anaheim, Calif., in the Diocese of Los Angeles, on July 8 and continued until July 17. Bishops and deputies from the Episcopal Church’s 110 dioceses made broad decisions about policies and worship.

The latest news about convention:

Worth noting: Convention approved the addition of a number of commemorations to the church calendar, include Southwest Florida's own, Deaconess Harriet Bedell, who ministered to Native American in the Everglades for decades. Her life and ministry will now be celebrated churchwide on Jan. 8.

The good stuff: There were many good resolutions on a host of topics which passed through the House of Deputies and the House of Bishops. Many didn't get a lot of press. Here's a list from Episcopal Cafe.

Bishops reflect: A number of bishop have already posted reactions to events at General Convention.
