The diocesan office learned Feb. 22 that the necessary consents from at least half of all diocesan bishops and standing committees of the 110 dioceses of the Episcopal Church have been received and that the Episcopal Church has given its official approval for the March 10 consecration of the Rev. Dr. Dabney Smith as the bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Southwest Florida.
Fr. Smith has been on the job since Feb 1, taking on a hectic schedule, including Bishop John Lipscomb's visitation schedule.
He and his wife, Mary Ellen, have purchased a home in Manatee County.
His timetable was accelerated after Bishop John Lipscomb announced Dec. 13 he was taking a six-month medical leave.
